The date that has been buzzing in everyone’s ears is here. October 1, 2013 has finally arrived. The date that we have been counting down to, watching from a distance and eagerly learning about is here. What is so special about October 1st, you might ask? October 1st is the day that state wide health exchanges, created as part of Obamacare, open for enrollment. Starting tomorrow anyone can enroll in a health plan effective January 1st, 2014. You might be asking yourself, why would employees enroll? Why do I care? Well, starting January 1st, 2014 everyone will be required to have health coverage or risk a fine which begins at $95 and increases based off annual income.

So, how does California’s health exchange affect you and your company? Great question! Does one of your employees have a doctor not covered by the company health plan? Do you have employees who opt out of your company sponsored health plans because they dislike the plan offered? If you answered “Yes!” to either of the above questions, then the health exchange might be the perfect fit for your employees.

Your employees who are considering opting out of the company plan will be able to see if their doctor of choice is covered. With the Obamacare exchange, they will also be able to control the amount they pay for health care coverage – with four different tier options that will allow the individual to pick the amount of coverage they want, for the premium range they can afford.
